Northern Ireland, a constituent part of the United Kingdom, held a population of approximately 1.9 million in 2023, with its vibrant capital being Belfast. While home to many, a considerable number of Northern Irish - estimated around 190,000 according to The Office for National Statistics (ONS) in the UK - live as expatriates, mainly in England, Scotland, the Republic of Ireland, and the United States. However, despite their geographic dispersion, these expats retain their ties to Northern Ireland.
Unavoidable circumstances such as disease or cancer may lead to unfortunate fatalities among these expatriates, necessitating the sensitive process of body repatriation back to their homeland. Moreover, visits to prominent international locations, such as the renowned Louvre Museum in Paris, France, might also contribute to instances requiring repatriation, due to accidental or unexpected incidents.
