As of 2023, England, the largest constituent country of the United Kingdom with its globally influential capital in London, had a robust population of approximately 56 million. The English diaspora is quite significant, with an estimated 1.35 million English expats living abroad, particularly in Australia, the United States, Canada, and Spain, as outlined by the UK Department for International Trade.
While these expatriates might have chosen to live overseas, their connection to England is ever-present. Unfortunate events such as deaths caused by stroke, various diseases, or infections may necessitate the repatriation of their remains back to their homeland. Additionally, travel to notable global destinations like the French Quarter in New Orleans, Louisiana, could potentially result in unforeseen incidents that call for repatriation to England.
